Mark Cox and ANB Promotions Ltd - Marketing Company of the Year

Mark Cox is the Managing Director of ANB Promotions Ltd, who picked up the prestigious Marketing Company of the Year award at the Convention. We asked him for insight into his company’s rise to the top.

Q. What did you change in the last year to win this award?
I believe the award isn’t based on the last twelve months; the results we’ve achieved in the last year are a by‐product of the ofwork put in in the last three years. Firstly, thetraining we give people is better than ever before, as we are developing people better as an organisation. Secondly, the environment in the office:  it’s been set up like a training school rather than just a sales office, with a sales‐based trainer. Lastly, I’m a believer in showing the FRs what is possible, not only over one, two, or three months, but consistently setting the pace to show hem it’s possible to have fifty FRs in a Marketing Company and consistently do 200 sales a week.
Q. What obstacles have you overcome as an MC, and how?
I had to get better finan‐cially. I had to get better at working with my Owners when they were out. Because I demand high standards from myself I am not afraid to demand the same from those around me.
Q. You have promoted three Owners in the last twelve months; what are your tips on promoting Owners?
I teach my people early on how to have a first gen on their team. Having a steady flow of recruitment and new people coming into your office has a direct effect on what works in each team. I have a fulltime Recruitment Manager to ensure this happens. It’s important to have a consistent stream of new starters each week. Make sure you provide an environment which is conducive to growth, with good systems for everyone to copy. Also, my FRs are well‐travelled, which keeps them fresh.
Q. What are your top tips for MCs who are looking to achieve this award at the next rally?
Honestly, my goal wasn’t to win the award, but to develop some great people. It only entered my head later on. You can’t obsess with the award, rather focus on the new people coming through in your office. Spend time with them, travel with them and invest in them. Your people are constantly changing their situation and you need to focus on them. Their success will lead to your award or any other award, as well as promotion within the business.
Q. How do you balance personal life with work?
I generate my spare time by working really hard; I reward myself based on results. If things are not going well, my own fear of loss is that I can’t take time out. If the MC is doing well, at this level I can take time out. It frees me up to travel and spend time with my daughter.
